Best times for a seaside holiday in Spain
If you are heading to the beaches of Catalonia, the best time is between June and October. The sea temperature in Spain is pleasantly warm and gives you an incomparable feeling of well‑being.
Further south, on the Costa Blanca, which includes the resort of Alicante, sea warmth approaches ideal conditions with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 26°C during the height of summer.
For a stay on the Costa del Sol, on the Andalusian coast, try to arrive before September because the sea temperature in this region of Spain cools quickly due to the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean.
Less favourable times for a seaside holiday in Spain
Because of the Mediterranean's influence, sea temperatures in Spain along the Mediterranean coast rarely fall below 12°C. Even if the water is cold, the least favourable period is January to March for the Costa Daurada and the Costa Blanca, while sea temperatures are relatively warmer on the Costa del Sol. Swimming in Spain becomes uncomfortable during this time.
By contrast, on the northern coast of Spain, the unfavourable period begins as early as October and lasts until April. In this region, sea temperatures in Spain are icy, and even when warmth returns during spring, the water remains cool.
